The acting leader of the OVL-UCK, Hysni Gucati, has reacted harshly to the Hague Prosecutor's request for the maximum sentence against the accused, describing it as unacceptable and with political consequences for Kosovo.
Gucati considers the request for a sentence of 45 years in prison for each of the accused, which amounts to a total of 180 years in prison, scandalous.
According to him, such an approach has no real basis and only serves the interests of Serbia and the opponents of the liberation war.
"This request has satisfied Serbian politics and the state of Serbia. Serbia today is satisfied with the prosecutors who have worked against the state of Kosovo and against the KLA itself," Gucati declared.
He also criticized the way the Prosecution is handling statements and actions of former KLA members.
In his reaction, Gucati also rejected Jack Smith West's claims that General Wesley Clark and American diplomats had no knowledge or cooperation with the KLA.
"It's not true. NATO cooperated with the KLA, even Clark himself. There was cooperation for the liberation of Kosovo and against Serbian forces. To say that the KLA did not have international support is a lie," he said.
