The constitutive session of the Assembly of Kosovo has begun, with 118 deputies present in the hall, marking the first step towards the functionalization of the new legislature.
At the beginning of the session, the Temporary Committee for the Verification of the Quorum and the Mandates of the Deputies was formed. This committee was established after all political entities proposed a representative, and its task is to confirm the validity of the mandates and the existence of the quorum, a necessary procedure for the continuation of the proceedings.
After the verification of the mandates, the deputies took the solemn oath, officially assuming office. Immediately after this phase, the session will continue with the election of the Speaker of the Assembly, one of the key moments in the full constitution of the institution. In the following, the deputies will also proceed with the election of the Deputy Speakers of the Assembly.
The session was called by President Vjosa Osmani, initially for 12:00, but was postponed due to the ongoing trial in The Hague against former KLA leaders. Her call came a day after the Central Election Commission certified the results of the early parliamentary elections of December 28.
According to official CEC data, the Vetëvendosje Movement emerged as the leading force with 51.10% of the votes, securing 57 seats in the Assembly. The Democratic Party of Kosovo won 22 seats, the Democratic League of Kosovo 15, and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo six seats. Of the seats reserved for the Serb community, nine seats were taken by the Serbian List and one by the Party for Freedom, Justice and Survival.
