The Kosovo Assembly will meet today in a constitutive session, which will be held at 5:00 PM.
The Kosovo Assembly meets today in the constitutive session of the new legislature, where the president and vice presidents of the highest legislative institution in the country are expected to be elected.
According to parliamentary procedure, the session will be chaired by the oldest MP, Avni Dehari from the Vetëvendosje Movement. He will be assisted in the opening of the proceedings by the youngest MP, Fatma Taçi from the KDTP.
The agenda initially includes the formation of the Temporary Committee for the Verification of the Quorum and Mandates of Deputies. Following the report of this committee, the deputies will take the solemn oath, paving the way for the formal constitution of the Assembly.
Further, voting is expected to take place for the election of the Speaker of the Assembly and the Deputy Speakers. According to preliminary reports, the Deputy Speakers may be voted on as a single package, with the aim of accelerating the process and paving the way for further steps towards the formation of the new Government.
The constitutive session takes place in a sensitive political situation, where the main focus remains the creation of new institutions after the certification of the election results by the Central Election Commission. The Vetëvendosje Movement has stated that it aims, in addition to the constitution of the Assembly, to advance with the procedures for the formation of the Government.
On the other hand, opposition parties have emphasized the need for full respect for constitutional procedures and for transparency in the process of distributing leadership positions in the Assembly.
The election of the Speaker and Deputy Speakers is considered a key step for the functioning of the Assembly, as only after the conclusion of this process can the procedures for voting on the new Government officially begin. At the same time, the country also faces constitutional deadlines for the election of the President, which increases the importance of establishing institutions as soon as possible.
It remains to be seen whether the political forces will reach full consensus during today's session, or whether the process will be accompanied by additional debates and negotiations in the plenary session.
