The failure to constitute the ninth legislature of the Kosovo Assembly has plunged the country into political deadlock. The parties accuse each other of causing the situation.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has reacted to the failure of today's parliamentary session to constitute the ninth legislature.
He called the decision of opposition MPs not to constitute the new legislature a rebellion and an internal institutional attack against the Republic of Kosovo and democratic elections.
" The opposition deputies PDK, LDK, Srpska Lista and AAK today voted against the report of the commission for the verification of mandates. In a completely formal and technical vote based on the CEC documentation, they rebelled against the oath of deputies and the constitution of the ninth legislature. This is an internal institutional attack against the Republic of Kosovo and democratic elections. This is an unprecedented situation in our country and much wider. We govern well and well, these people are making a bad name for our country. It is known that they are against the government of the Republic, but we learned today that they are also against themselves," he wrote.
Meanwhile, there have also been accusations from the opposition, where the leader of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, after the failure of the session to constitute the Assembly, stated that it is a dark episode in parliamentary democracy.
Abdixhiku said that the winning party does not respect the basic constitutional rule that states that an elected official cannot be both prime minister or minister and an MP.
" The position of the winning party that with 10 MPs who exercise the function of prime minister and ministers to be MPs at the same time is unconstitutional and is being done because of a political game to delay the formation of institutions. The solution is simple for them to resign from their positions, sit as MPs and take the oath as MPs ," said Abdixhiku.
The LDK leader added that the accusations against them are part of the same polarizing mindset.
" Those who communicate the composition of votes from the Serbian List through messages should at least talk about such coordination ," said Abdixhiku.
Regarding the resignation letter from Kurti and the government cabinet, Abdixhiku said that "if a resignation letter has been submitted and he continues to work as prime minister, then what value does this have?"
He said that if such a commission report is voted on, tomorrow anyone could overthrow a future government of Kosovo and cause extraordinary elections.
" This is a deliberate blocking process by the ruling party because it doesn't have the numbers ," said Abdixhiku.
