The situation in the north of Kosovo was also a topic at the NATO headquarters today (June 13, 2023) after Ambassador Miroslav Lajçak, EU Special Representative for the Prishtina-Belgrade dialogue, met NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană.
"The headquarters of NATO, KFOR, allies as well as the European Union and the OSCE have been tireless in their efforts to de-escalate the situation in the north of Kosovo and to bring both sides to the table talks, within the dialogue led by the EU between Belgrade and Pristina", said the Deputy Secretary General, the official announcement states.
Geoana recalled that "NATO has been committed to stability in the Western Balkans for decades"
"Our KFOR mission on the ground, with over 4,000 troops, is the strongest demonstration of this commitment," he said.
He further added that the NATO-led KFOR mission is taking all necessary actions to maintain a safe environment and freedom of movement for all people living in Kosovo and continues to act impartially, in accordance with its UN mandate based on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 1999.
