The envoy of the European Union for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, has stated that after the meeting with Prime Minister Albin Kurti, they have agreed to continue discussions on the extension of the situation in the north.
In a statement to the media after the end of the meeting, Lajçak said that there is understanding from the leaders of Kosovo to move forward in the three points requested by the EU: extension, new elections and return to normalization.
" It is not an easy task, nor an easy situation. I had important meetings with President Osmani and Prime Minister Kurti. Long honest discussion. Very important. I have to choose the words, there is understanding in the need to move forward on the three points that have been presented by the EU: enlargement, new elections, and return to normalization. We still have to continue discussions on the concrete steps to be taken. He [Kurti] has presented his views, I have mine. The long but very important meeting to understand each other's positions better, but we have agreed to continue ," he said.
Asked about the sanctions against Kosovo, Lajçak said that he would not like to comment on them, as he added that the EU is not happy with the fact that it had to use sanctions.
" It is clear that the EU is not happy that it is in the position to present measures" , added Lajçak.
Lajcak has made it clear that if it is understood that Serbia is not acting in relation to EU requirements, then according to him, there are sanctions ready for them as well.
" The EU has made it clear that there are sanctions ready for Serbia as well, they will be applied if it is understood that Serbia is not acting with the EU's requirements. It is the decision of the member states. I will be in Belgrade tomorrow. My wish is not to have sanctions against Kosovo and Serbia. My wish is not to have sanctions and to have the two parties in Brussels and negotiate how to implement the agreements ", said the EU envoy.
