The West must toughen its approach to Belgrade, and avoid policies that centralize Serbia in Belgrade.
This is the request of several European and American lawmakers through a letter addressed to the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the head of EU diplomacy Joseph Borrel.
In the letter, also signed by two prominent Western political figures who lead the Foreign Relations Committee, Michael Roth of the German Bundestag and Bob Menendez who oversees US foreign policy in the Senate, it is requested to give up, as they say, " satisfaction" of Belgrade and the policies that make Belgrade central in the Western Balkans, and in particular in relation to Kosovo.
"We ask the international community to learn from the past and ensure that we will not pursue Belgrade-centric policies in the Balkans - the letter continues - We must consider a preventive diplomacy to avoid further deterioration of the situation in the north of Kosovo. Those who stand behind the rule of law and democracy should not be punished"
Also, in the letter, the foreign officials highlight the fact that the Vucic Government is not participating in the sanctions against Moscow.
The tensions of a few months ago due to the holding of elections in municipalities with a Serbian majority in the North of Kosovo were accompanied by numerous international calls for a return to the tracks of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, while the official Prishtina has made its efforts to reduce tensions by accepting the repetition of the elections.
