Lawyer Arianit Koçi has called on citizens to avoid crossing the territory of Serbia while carrying emblems, stickers or other symbols related to the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) in their vehicles.
He announced that a compatriot was recently arrested by Serbian authorities because of such an emblem on his car, adding that this action is arbitrary and legally unacceptable.
"Do not travel around Serbia with KLA symbols or stickers on your vehicles. I just received information that one of our compatriots has been arrested for this reason, an action that is completely legally unfounded," Koçi declared.
He emphasized that the expression of political, historical or cultural identity does not constitute a criminal offense under European human rights standards, but in this case, the symbols are being used as a tool of political pressure.
"Relations between states are currently tense, and the price is paid by ordinary citizens, who are at risk from arbitrary actions. Cooperation, mutual information and caution are the best shield at the moment. Therefore, for your safety, if you have to transit through Serbia, remove any such signs," Koçi added.
He appealed to citizens to be vigilant and take the necessary measures to protect their safety, avoiding any situation that could lead to unreasonable restrictions or conflicts.
