Bad weather with storms and torrential rain caused a very difficult situation yesterday evening in the city of Peja in Kosovo.
The torrential water has covered the streets of the city. Videos published on social networks show that in some cases the water has taken money and cars, while it has damaged shops and houses.
A woman and her 5-year-old child lost their lives in the "Asllan Çeşme" neighborhood.
"The Pejë Regional Police Directorate announces that on 24.06.2023 as a result of the floods in the city of Pejë, in the "Asllan Qeshme" neighborhood, a child lost his life while his mother is missing. After searches by Police units at around 01:20, on 25.06.2023, the missing female person was found, the death of the victim was confirmed by the medical team", the communiqué states.
Defense Minister Armend Mehaj, through a post on Facebook, says that search and rescue units have already left for the city of Peja, where he described the situation as serious.
"Our search and rescue units have already left for the city of Peja, they will be where they are needed to help in this difficult situation. With all our capacities we are available to overcome this situation" Mehaj writes.
Earlier, the medical director at the Peja Hospital, Besnik Ibraj, stated that 2 people are in intensive care in the hospital.
