Deadlock in the Kosovo Assembly, Vjosa Osmani: To be resolved urgently!

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, called this Friday for the Assembly to be constituted and the government to be elected as soon as possible, emphasizing that any delay is to the detriment of the country and its citizens.

"For the Assembly to be constituted urgently, for the government to be elected urgently, every lost day is a lost day for Kosovo, for its people, for our Euro-Atlantic perspective, so I hope that a solution will be found in accordance with the Constitution," said President Osmani after paying tribute at the Monument to Missing Persons, in marking the International Day of Enforced Disappearances.

After 57 sessions, Vetëvendosje Movement MP Dimal Basha was elected Speaker of the Assembly on Tuesday (August 26). The Assembly also elected three deputy speakers from Albanian parties: Albulena Haxhiu, Vlora Çitaku and Kujtim Shala.

Emilija Rexhepi was elected Deputy Speaker by the non-Serb minorities, however the constitution process is still incomplete. In two sessions, the election of the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly by the Serb community has already failed.

The Serbian List has 9 MPs and they themselves did not vote because they want Slavko Simic to be their candidate, but his name was put on the ballot 3 times and did not receive the necessary votes.

According to the Constitutional Court's ruling, a candidate's name can only be put to the vote 3 times. The constitution of the Assembly would pave the way for the formation of a new Government, after a long political stalemate, following the February 9 elections.
