The former vice-president of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Agim Veliu, has demanded the resignation of LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku and the holding of internal elections in the party.
In a reaction to Abdixhiku's latest comments, Veliu said that heavy losses cannot be passed over in silence. LDK came in third in the December 28 elections with just over 13 percent of the vote and will have a total of 15 MPs.
Veliu said that the message from citizens should not be ignored, as he called for opening up democracy within the party.
" As a contributor to the LDK, I feel a moral and political obligation to say that heavy losses cannot be relativized, nor passed over in silence. In democracy, responsibility is a prerequisite for trust, while resignation is not weakness, but an act of strength and political maturity. Therefore: the door is open! LDK, today, does not need justifications (in television studios), but for: immediate analysis of the causes of the loss; internal openness and functional democracy; and for a new electoral process at all levels that gives hope to the membership and the electorate ," Veliu wrote.
