The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osman, received today in a meeting the Special Representative of the European Union, Miroslav Lajçak.
During the meeting, the latest developments in the dialogue process with Serbia were discussed, where Osmani emphasized the commitment of Kosovo as a constructive party in this process.
Osmani said that the new elections in the Serbian-majority municipalities in the north of the country should be held without wasting time and in accordance with the laws of the country.
She emphasized that the Brussels agreement of February 27, 2023 and the Ohrid annex of March 18, 2023 must be fully implemented. Osmani said that it is necessary to remove the EU measures against Kosovo, since according to her they create a lack of balance in the dialogue.
As for the draft of the Association's statute, Osmani reiterated that the only institution that can finally interpret the compatibility of this act with the Constitution is the Constitutional Court of Kosovo, as he expressed his concerns regarding some provisions of this draft, "which may be challenging during implementation in practice".
"Osmani reiterated the need to remove the measures of the European Union against Kosovo, which are unfair and create a lack of balance in the dialogue. In this regard, she reiterated that Kosovo has offered the organization of new elections in the north of the country in accordance with the legal framework of Kosovo, by also approving the administrative instruction, while she emphasized her expectations that this right of the citizens will be realized without delay and in in accordance with the procedures and legislation in force", it was said in the announcement of the Presidency.
Kosovo has said that it is open to holding elections in North Mitrovica, Zveçan, Zubin Potok and Leposaviq, if the current Albanian presidents are dismissed through a petition by citizens with the right to vote.
