Endrit Thaçi, the son of former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi, has made a public call for a march in Pristina, at a time when the trial against former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army has entered its final phase in The Hague.
Through a post on social media, Endrit Thaçi has distributed a poster inviting citizens to participate in the march announced for February 17, at 2:00 PM, at Skanderbeg Square in the capital. The poster features the inscription "Justice, not politics," accompanied by the slogan "Freedom has a name" and the KLA symbol.
The call for the march comes at a time when the Prosecutor's Office of the Specialist Chambers in The Hague has filed a request for sentences of 45 years in prison for each of the former KLA leaders on trial: Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.
According to the announcement, the march aims to express opposition to what the organizers consider to be the politicization of the judicial process and to demand justice for the former KLA leaders. The choice of date coincides with the anniversary of the declaration of Kosovo's independence.
The announced march is expected to take place at a key moment for the process in The Hague and on a day of particular symbolic importance for Kosovo, while the level of participation and institutional reactions to this call remain to be seen.
