Russia continues to use Kosovo as an example to justify the annexation of Ukrainian territories. Although Serbia has opposed him in this aspect, this does not stop Lavrov from mentioning Kosovo.
The Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, claims that the Charter of Rights of the United Nations Organization is being used only unilaterally, thus making a comparison between the independence of Kosovo and the annexation of Crimea.
" The West chooses as if from a menu. In one case, the principle of protecting sovereignty, as it did by refusing to recognize an absolutely transparent referendum in Crimea, and in another case it is guided by the principle of the right of nations to self-determination, as it was when Kosovo unilaterally declared independence without any referendum and the West said that this is the right of peoples, written in the UN Charter ," Lavrov said.
Despite acknowledging that the UN remains the only platform for universal interaction between countries and that the principles set out in its charter are more important than ever, Lavrov repeated the call for the creation of a new world order.
" The contours of a new multipolar world order are now emerging. People want their right to decide their own destiny to be respected, they are looking for new alternatives to the West, ways to solve various problems and the possibility to create a system that would serve the world economy without dependence from the dictates of those who are currently issuing reserve currencies ," Lavrov declared.
