The Kosovo police have arrested a suspect in connection with the escape of Faton Hajrizi from the prison in Smrekonica.
This was confirmed by the Police spokesperson, Baki Kelani, announcing that the suspect was detained for 48 hours.
" Kosovo Police, Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Serious Crimes, has developed intensive investigations regarding the escape that happened days ago in the Correctional Center in Smrekonica. As part of these investigative actions, today, on 20.07.2024, a Kosovar male person, who is suspected of helping the suspect after his escape, was called for an interview , said Kelani.
After consultations with the competent prosecutor, the decision was made to detain the suspect for 48 hours, to continue with the investigative procedures.
The event takes place about a week after the escape of Faton Hajrizi, who was killed by the Serbian police in Lloznica, Serbia.
It is suspected that at midnight on Wednesday, Hajrizi killed a Serbian policeman and wounded another during a still unsolved incident in Lloznica.
Kosovo has requested in-depth investigations into the case, questioning the version of the event given by the Serbian authorities.
