The ambassador of the United States in Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, said that it is difficult to say that they are close to reaching a solution for the situation in the north, despite yesterday's meeting of the deputy prime minister Besnik Bislimi with the emissary of the European Union for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak.
However, he said that the extension of the situation in the north should happen as soon as possible.
After participating in an activity in Peja, the American ambassador emphasized to journalists the need for the full implementation of the basic agreement. Meanwhile, he added that the USA cannot say more than what KFOR has said about the case of the kidnapping of three Kosovo policemen.
Hovenier also said that the US wants Kosovo to achieve its goals and that it supports a democratic and sovereign Kosovo.
"I would say that the USA remains committed, as it has always been, to seeing Kosovo achieve its goals. What I want to say is that we are behind a sovereign, independent, multi-ethnic democratic Kosovo that takes place in the European and Euro-Atlantic structures. We are working hard on this. This also means that Kosovo exercises its sovereignty. The north is complicated and difficult and the way the Government of Kosovo manages the situation is very sensitive and we want it to be very coordinated with international allies to avoid moments of crisis that hinder our long way to achieve this common goal" , he said.
He was also asked by journalists about the publication of several wiretappings involving the head of deputies of Vetëvendosje, Mimoza Kusari-Lila and Slavko Simic of the Serbian List, while Milan Radojicic is also mentioned.
"I can't talk much about this, the political leaders in the Parliament have communication with all parties. But you know that Radojicic is on the US blacklist," he said.
