The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, in an interview for the Serbian media, focused on the events in the region and the tensions between Kosovo and Serbia.
During his speech, Stoltenberg stated that any attack or violence against citizens in Kosovo is unacceptable.
"Any attack, any violence against citizens in Kosovo is unacceptable. The message is the same whether it is about the violence against 93 members of the NATO troops in May, or what happened in Banjska or any other example," Stoltenberg said in an interview with the Serbian newspaper Blic.rs.
The head of NATO emphasized that the Kosovo region is important for NATO.
Among other things, he said that NATO is trying to ensure peace and stability, while emphasizing that "we need investigations, for a legal process to ensure that all people can move and live freely and safely".
"We are present here, we have a history here and we try wherever we can to help promote peace, stability and prosperity. The rule of law must be respected and those responsible for the violence must be held accountable. We need investigations, we need a legal process to ensure that all people can move and live freely and safely. This is the main task of NATO, to protect the people living in Kosovo, including the Serbs. NATO has increased its presence in the north of Kosovo to fulfill its mandate", he said.
Asked about his replacement, Stoltenberg said NATO will manage to find a good successor and appoint a new Secretary General before the next summit.
It has already been extended several times. I have been truly privileged to serve NATO, especially at a crucial time for our security with the renewed war in Europe. But I am absolutely sure that NATO will manage to find a good successor and appoint a new Secretary General before the next summit.
