While the EU seeks to find the fault in Kosovo for the stalling of the process of normalization of relations with Serbia, Reinhard Butikofer sees the responsibility elsewhere.
In the new talks held in Brussels on Thursday regarding the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue, there was no meeting between the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the Serbian President, Aleksandër Vucic. Both of them held separate meetings with European leaders, Olaf Scholz and Emanuel Macron and Meloni.
After the meetings Borrell said that the work is continuing and that for Kosovo and Serbia there is no other solution than what comes out of the dialogue. But Butikofer expresses concern that the head of EU diplomacy is blaming both sides equally, while he does not mention the act of Serbian aggression on September 24 at all.
“This is really interesting: The only obstacle Borrell mentions is the Association. Were there no obstacles from the Serbian side as well? Is it right to "forget" the mention of all recent acts of Serbian aggression? Prime Minister Kurti publicly said that he was ready to sign everything that the EU put on the table, while Vucic refused to do so. So why then does Borrelli blame both sides equally? Then, does he remind Borrell that the European Parliament requested the lifting of sanctions against Kosovo? Why is this not talked about? So many questions", Butikofer wrote on the X platform.
According to the leaders of the EU, the reaching of the agreement a day ago was hindered by the conditions presented by the parties. Kurti said that only the signing of agreements with the neighboring country guarantees their implementation, while Serbian President Vucic insisted on the implementation of "what has been signed".
