The spokesperson of the European Union, Peter Stano, once again reiterated the position that the elections in the north of Kosovo should be held as soon as possible and without compromise by the parties.
The senior EU official said that the April elections that took place in these municipalities were within the legal framework, but unfortunately they did not offer a solution.
"Regarding the elections, even though the partial elections for mayors held in April 2023 in the four municipalities of the north of Kosovo were conducted in accordance with the legal framework of Kosovo, we have been very clear that due to the participation of many low, they have not offered a long-term political solution. Therefore, it is important that comprehensive local elections, where Kosovo Serbs participate without preconditions, be organized as soon as possible", said Stano.
Also, Stano recalled the commitment that Kosovo has taken in Bratislava for the de-escalation of the situation.
"The EU underlines the statement of the High Representative on behalf of the EU dated 3 June 2023, which asked Kosovo and Serbia to take measures to de-escalate the situation and refrain from any further uncoordinated actions. Kosovo committed to these principles in Bratislava in July 2023", concluded Stano.
