Hashim Thaçi left The Hague prison and came to Kosovo, due to his father's health condition.

Former president Hashim Thaçi has reached his hometown in Burojë due to his father's health condition.

According to Kosovo media, Thaçi's request for a visit was approved by the Special Court.

This is the second time that Thaçi comes to his family because of the health condition of his parents.

As the Court in The Hague has confirmed, the decision was taken for "humanitarian reasons".

"For humanitarian reasons, the Judiciary has instructed the Secretariat to manage a detention visit to Kosovo, for the meeting of Hashim Thaçi with his family. The accused remains in custody and under the supervision of the Specialized Chambers," the Special's announcement states.

It is announced that Thaçi will be under the supervision of the Kosovo Police and EULEX during the visit he will make to his father.

On November 5, 2020, Hashim Thaçi resigned from the post of the president of Kosovo, after the court of preliminary procedure near the Specialized Chambers informed him that it has confirmed the indictment against him and three of his former comrades-in-arms.

"Thus, as I promised, I will not allow the president of the Republic of Kosovo to appear before the court under any circumstances", Thaçi told reporters during a media conference held in the courtyard of the Presidency of Kosovo.

That same day, he left for The Hague, where he is staying in the detention center of the Specialized Chambers, also known as the Special Court.

On November 9, in his first appearance before the Special Court, Thaçi pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.

"I plead not guilty to all charges," said Thaçi, describing the indictment against him as "unsustainable".

At the time when the Assembly of Kosovo voted for the establishment of the Special Court, Thaçi had declared that despite what he considered injustice, the state had to establish this institution, which operates according to the laws of Kosovo.

"The request of the international community to Kosovo to establish a Special Court, which will deal with any possible charges, which may result from the investigations of the Special Investigative Task Force established by the European Union, to address the claims made by Dick Marty's report is the biggest injustice and insult that can be done to the state of Kosovo and the Kosovar society", Thaçi declared in the Kosovo Assembly.

The former prime minister and former president of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, according to the documents of the Special Court, it is said that during the war he was the head of the political and information departments of the KLA, commander-in-chief of the KLA and prime minister of the Provisional Government of Kosovo.
