Tensions in the North, Kosovo police confiscate over 1,000 cartridges in a

The Kosovo Police announced that on Monday they confiscated over 1,200 cartridges in the village of Rudine in Zveçan. Zvecan, together with North Mitrovica, Leposaviq and Zubin Potok, are municipalities inhabited by a Serbian majority in the north of the country.

Through a press release, the Police said that this suspicious quantity was confiscated by its Rapid Intervention Unit, during patrols in that area.

On August 11, the Kosovo Police arrested five people in Zveçan, who shot at the Police, while the latter said they were fighting smuggling.

Kosovo Police told Radio Free Europe that day that they confiscated three cars and a truck, and that in addition to contraband, they also found narcotics.

Last week, the Police also found a drug laboratory in North Mitrovica, in which there was equipment for mining cryptocurrencies.

Tensions in the north of Kosovo have been high, especially in May and June of this year.

Local Serbs oppose the entry of new Albanian mayors into the northern municipalities.

They did not accept the presidents, although they boycotted the elections.

For several weeks, protests have been held in front of the buildings every day, with the request that the mayors withdraw, together with members of the Kosovo Police, engaged in that area.

After many calls from the international factor, the Government of Kosovo has reached an agreement with the European Union for an extension plan that also foresees the holding of new elections for the northern municipalities./ REL
