The head of the European Union for Foreign Policy and Security, Joep Borrell, after the separate meetings he had with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti and the President of Serbia, Aleksandër Vucic, held a press conference.
Borrell said that he has made concrete proposals to the parties, related to the withdrawal of Kosovo's special police forces from the vicinity of 4 municipal facilities, the withdrawal of mayors from municipal facilities, as well as the restraining of Serbian protesters from violence.
" We spent more than 4 hours first with Kurt and then with Vucic, to find a solution. We have presented our expectations to the parties. From Kosovo, we have requested the prohibition of police activities from municipal facilities and the performance of the duties of the 4 mayors from alternative facilities and from Serbia to attract the protesters ", said Borrell.
He said that in separate meetings with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, there was agreement only on the need for new elections.
"Today's meeting was not focused on what, but how and when - when will the situation on the ground be escalated, with concrete steps, how to organize new elections and how to return to dialogue and implement all dialogue agreements , in particular the last one on the road to normalization ", said Borrell.
During his speech, he added that he asked Vučić for the release of three Kosovar policemen who are being held in Serbia. This release, he said, should be done immediately and unconditionally.
" I emphasized to President Vučić that the three policemen held in Serbia should be released immediately and unconditionally ," said Borrell.
Also, he added that on Monday together with the EU emissary for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, they will report to the ministers where they have reached. Borrell added that he asked to de-escalate the situation, saying that Kurti and Vucic are aware of this, but have opposite attitudes.
