Arrested in Skopje for the interest of Serbia, former KLA member Blerim Ramadani

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of North Macedonia confirmed on Thursday the escape from house arrest of Blerim Ramadani, a former member of the Kosovo Liberation Army, who was detained by Macedonian police authorities on the basis of an arrest warrant issued by Serbia.

The Ministry of Interior told local media that it will issue a "central arrest warrant" for Mr. Ramadani.

The authorities do not provide details on the circumstances of the escape of the citizen of Kosovo, a portal in the Macedonian language wrote that Mr. Ramadani escaped from the house of his friends in Skopje, where he was under house arrest based on an order of the basic court in Skopje. According to the portal sdk.mk, after the complaint of the Prosecutor's Office, three judges of the Criminal Court on Wednesday ordered Ramadani to be detained for 30 days due to the risk that he could escape. Always according to the portal, someone from the Criminal Court had notified Mr. Ramadani, who then escaped.

Last week, the Foreign Ministry of Kosovo said that a court in Skopje decided not to hand over Mr. Ramadani to the Serbian authorities, who will continue to remain under house arrest in Skopje until the final decision of the Supreme Court of North Macedonia.

Blerim Ramadani was arrested at the end of July at the border crossing between Kosovo and North Macedonia, Gllobočica - Jazhinca, near Tetova. After several days in custody, he was released on August 1st under house arrest to his friends in Skopje, until the judicial authorities make a final decision on whether to extradite him to Serbia or not.

The Kosovo authorities, through the embassy in Skopje, had requested his release. Blerim Ramadani was a member of the Nerodime Operative Zone of the former Kosovo Liberation Army.

KLA veterans from Ferizaji, where former fighter Ramadani was a member, demanded his immediate release, while the indictments of the Serbian authorities against KLA members were fabricated and the arrests "unjust and disturbing for all veterans ".

Serbia accuses Mr. Ramadani of "war crimes in the region of Nerodime, in the municipality of Ferizaj in the summer of 1999".

This is not the first case when Macedonian authorities detain Kosovo citizens based on Serbian arrest warrants./ VOA
