The Kosovo Assembly failed again on Thursday to form the committee for the secret ballot of the Assembly Speaker, after 48 unsuccessful attempts to fully constitute the institution. In today's session, where 100 deputies were present, 51 votes were in favor of forming the committee, with no votes against and no abstentions, but this was not enough to move the process forward.
The session was marked by tensions and interruptions. PDK MP Rashit Qalaj continued to speak even after the Speaker of the Assembly, Avni Dehari, asked him to leave the podium and blocked his microphone. LDK MP Alban Zogaj and AAK MP Time Kadrijaj suffered the same fate, as their microphones were cut off during their speeches.
Verbal clashes and disagreements between the ruling party and the opposition continued to hinder the progress of the session.
Opposition Demands Implementation of Supreme Court Decision
After the failure of the session, opposition MPs from PDK, LDK, and AAK delivered harsh speeches, demanding the implementation of the Supreme Court's decision, which prohibits holding two offices simultaneously by government officials who are also MPs.
PDK MP Altin Krasniqi called on Vetëvendosje (VV) officials to respect the verdict and vacate government positions.
"The court has sealed a truth about dual functions. PDK calls on VV to respect the decision and vacate the positions in the government cabinet, " Krasniqi declared.
Hykmete Bajrami from LDK accused the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, of working against the constitutional order and of not recognizing the state of Kosovo.
"Kurti is working against the state. He cannot wrap himself in the red and black flag whenever it suits him. We will work day and night to remove his mask ," said Bajrami.
Meanwhile, AAK MP Time Kadrijaj criticized VV for illegally holding two positions by ministers and the prime minister.
"The Supreme Court has confirmed what we have said from day one. VV thinks it has made the state and can do whatever it wants with it. The Constitutional Court's decision must be respected," said Kadrijaj.
Next Session on SaturdayThe next session on the constitution of the Assembly is scheduled for Saturday, July 19, at 11:00. The opposition has warned that it will continue to insist on the implementation of the Supreme Court's decision, while political tensions are expected to deepen if the impasse continues.
This prolonged blockage of the Assembly has raised concerns about the functioning of institutions and political stability in Kosovo, while citizens await solutions to urgent issues that are awaiting parliamentary approval.
