From the early hours of Wednesday, over 300 citizens of Kosovo have been stranded in Serbia, at the crossing point with Croatia, several citizens of Kosovo and the Liaison Office of Kosovo in Serbia have announced.
Fatmir Haxholli from this office said that this happened as a sign of revenge against the vote of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for Kosovo's membership in this institution.
"In revenge and absurd nervousness towards the vote of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, for the membership of the Republic of Kosovo in this international institution, the border authorities of Serbia, at the crossing point 'Batrovci', Serbia - Croatia, are keeping them blocked from midnight. at least four buses with license plates and passengers, citizens of the Republic of Kosovo", wrote Haxholli on Facebook.
Haxholli, as well as the trapped citizens, confirmed that the Serbian authorities took their passports and documents and kept them.
"The blocking of over 300 citizens, keeping their passports and travel documents, is a flagrant violation not only of the Brussels agreements, but also of universal human rights guaranteed by all international conventions. Only the most authoritarian regimes block travelers from another country, with the explanation 'this is an order from Belgrade,' Haxholli added.
Haxholli has said that he is waiting for the close follow-up to travel to the Batrovci crossing to find himself close to the citizens.
According to one of the trapped citizens, there are more than 15 buses stopped.
The Parliamentary Assembly has voted PRO with a majority of votes for Kosovo to advance even further towards membership in the Council of Europe. 171 deputies voted in favor, while 29 were against, 11 abstained.
Despite the vote against Serbia and two other countries, the Committee for Politics and Democracy of the Council of Europe approved the report of the rapporteur for Kosovo, Dora Bakoyannis, which recommends that the country has met the conditions to become a full member of the Council of Europe.
Now, the final word on Kosovo's membership must be given by the Council of Ministers of the Council of Europe in May.
