The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Albania to the Council of Europe (CoE), Dastid Koreshi, stated that today's vote in the Assembly of the Council of Europe for Kosovo is the result of 2 years of work.
Through a link from Strasbourg for the show "Now with Erla Mëhillin" on Euronews Albania, Koreshi showed the benefits that Kosovo benefits from membership in this organization.
He also said that they were prepared to challenge all the arguments of those who were against Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe, as it happened.
"What happened today in the assembly was the result of 2 years of work. Initially, it was the argument from the side of Kosovo, Albania and the allies why Kosovo should become a member. It is more difficult to lobby in the Assembly of KiE, while in the Committee of Ministers it is a little simpler.
For Kosovo, this is a seat for one of the most important organizations of this continent. The most important human rights organization on the continent. An organization of standards, but also political. It sits as a member state. There are over 220 conventions and agreements in the Council of Europe that have their own mechanisms in their fields in three specific areas, which are working daily with Kosovo to increase these standards.
We have been convinced from the beginning that we would be ready to challenge all the arguments that would be raised. Starting from Kosovo's citizenship, I said, an organization does not recognize a state, it is bilateral relations. The other arguments given by the skeptics, for example 'you have to be a member of the UN before being in the Council of Europe', this also does not hold, as 5 states have been in the Council of Europe without being in the UN," said Koreshi.
