Political scientist Agon Maliqi has shown why the international community is supporting the Serbian president. In his "Twitter" account, he wrote that Western countries are supporting Aleksander Vučić to appease Serbian opinion.
According to him, this is being done because of the war in Ukraine.
"Part of the support may be transactional because of Ukraine's weapons. But this is more of an attempt to calm the wider Serbian public opinion worried by the implications of Russia's collapse: "We can protect you!" Maliqi wrote.
He has assessed that the Serbian president appears to the international community as a useful person to resolve the issue with Kosovo. Maliqi wrote that Vucic is politically a dead man walking.
"I think this is what Chollet meant when he was asked in Congress about Vucic's corruption and said: 'We are trying something!' Vucic remains useful to "solve Kosovo", but politically he is a dead man walking. So, the approach is more like "hugging him to death", wrote Maliqi.
