12 unpleasant surprises we face in Tirana

Shkruar nga Jani Mali

Tirana is a city of contrasts, where physical exhaustion is imbued with a strange kind of pleasure, and where chaos and tranquility paradoxically coexist. In every street, neighborhood, and park, the city shows its multiple faces: from slow, congested traffic, to loud cafes where corruption becomes a topic of conversation, to palaces painted with tulips that try to cover up the lack of architectural harmony. Yet Tirana remains alive, breathing heavily, and reflecting a shared uncertainty that makes the city tangible and real.

12 unpleasant surprises we face in Tirana
Tirana

1. Tirana is exhausting to walk through, but impassable by car.
2. The city has many bike lanes, where pedestrians usually pass, while cyclists and scooter users test their penetrating skills between cars.
3. Although there is a street known as 'Train Road', don't be rude by asking for the train. At least be happy as long as no one asks you for your train ticket.
4. On urban bus lines, even the experience of congestion and the slow speed of movement to enjoy the city are nothing compared to the pleasure you will get when you learn how socialist-era tickets are still used.
5. Don't be surprised if you notice that dogs are more careful than humans when crossing from one side of the road to the other. This is because humans, in addition to their minds, have also lost their instincts.
6. Do not try to see Dajti Mountain from the Clock Tower in Tirana, but enjoy seeing the Clock Tower only after you have climbed Dajti Mountain.
7. Vegetables from Ndroq are sold on the city streets, while in Ndroq the vegetables go from Tirana.
8. Although Tirana is commanded by the invisible authority of chaos, it is generally a quiet city. The hustle and bustle of the bars and the gurgling of groups of men playing dominoes in the flowerbeds are exceptions that only increase the adrenaline.
9. In bars, people usually talk loudly and the topic of every table is corruption, a sign of a sensitivity and a false sincerity, where both the one who is robbed and the one who steals make the theft equally ridiculous.
10. Thanks to the many architects, the city has no architecture at all. The clusters of buildings give the impression that the city is not built by builders, but by some strange urchins who do not erode the earth for gold, but find their gold by scratching the sky.
11. All the old buildings have their facades painted with tulips as if to prove that the creator of this work of art was a painter. Perhaps if he were a sculptor, he would also deal with the other sides of the buildings.
12. Unlike other cities in Albania, which are dying from depopulation, Tirana breathes with gasps. People move in a damp confusion of uncertainty and when you face them, you will not have difficulty noticing that despair has almost rusted on their faces. / Observer Kult
