Danish band Aqua , known worldwide for the hit "Barbie Girl ," has announced that it will stop performing live after nearly three decades on stage.
In a statement posted on Instagram , the band members expressed gratitude for their musical journey and the support of their fans over the years. "After many extraordinary years, we have decided to close the chapter of AQUA as a live band," the statement read.
They emphasized that they have traveled all over the world, met millions of fans, and created unforgettable memories, describing this period as one of the most important of their artistic lives.
Barbie Girl , released in 1997, remains the group's biggest hit and one of the most iconic songs in international pop culture, part of the album "Aquarium".
The song has also been at the center of legal debates over the years, as in the early 2000s the company Mattel filed a lawsuit for using the "Barbie" trademark, but the case was dismissed in court as a legally protected parody.
In 2023, "Barbie Girl" returned to global attention after its use on the soundtrack of the film Barbie, bringing another wave of success to the group and returning it to the international charts.
