Giorgio Armani, the 90-year-old founder of the Italian fashion empire, recently said he plans to retire in two to three years. Armani has not yet revealed who will succeed the company he founded in 1975 and still firmly controls.
"I can give myself another two or three years at the head of the company. No more than that, this would be negative," he said in an interview for the newspaper Corriere del Sera. The famous creator added that at night he dreams of a future in which he will no longer have to be the one who says "yes" or "no".
Armani said that so far he has received several offers from potential investors for his company, but that he does not currently see the right candidate. There has been speculation about the future of Armani's fashion empire and questions about whether he will be able to maintain his independence in an industry dominated by luxury conglomerates such as LVMH and Kering. Regarding this, Armani said that he had built "a kind of structure, project and protocol" to manage the issue of the company's legacy, but did not give details.
