The well-known actor Johnny Depp and the director Tim Burton told how their multi-year collaboration on the screen began. Over the course of the 1990 sci-fi film Edward Scissorhands, an instant relationship developed between Burton, the film's director and co-writer, and the star.
As a new documentary about the 65-year-old reveals, Burton had other options for the role of Scissorhands.
Depp, 61, says in his interview for Tara Wood's as-yet-untitled documentary that Hollywood icons from Tom Hanks to Michael Jackson approached Burton about playing Edward.
Tom Cruise reveals that he was not far from playing Edward but in the end he didn't make it. Depp eventually won the coveted role and stated that Burton and Carolyn Thompson's script cut through everything and got to the core of who he was.
"He'll never take me when everyone in Hollywood is looking for the role," Depp thought before getting the good news.
Tim Burton's documentaries premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City yesterday.
