"You will end up in prison", Agron Llakaj: They threatened me when I imitated Berisha

The famous comedian Agron Llakaj has made a rare confession about his life and artistic career, revealing one of the most difficult episodes he has experienced over the years. On his YouTube channel, in the section "My Life" , Llakaj told how the first imitation he made of former president Sali Berisha in 1996-1997 , brought him serious threats and the fear of prison.

The comedian recalled that it all started during a performance in Tepelena, where, together with Albanian humor icon Koço Devole, they performed an imitation of Berisha, who was the country's president at the time.

"There was an extraordinary reaction from the public, but also reactions from the DP in Tepelena. A friend of mine, the leader of the DP there, told me: 'You will go to prison, you have damaged the image of the president,'" Llakaj confessed.

He further indicated that the situation became even more serious when a Tepelena prosecutor suggested that he immediately leave the area to avoid criminal prosecution.

"As soon as the king finds out you're not a donkey, you'll be in prison," the actor recalled the words that were said to him during that tense political period.

In his story, Llakaj also touched on another episode, this time in 1998 , when former Prime Minister Fatos Nano asked him to imitate Berisha during a political activity in Vlora.

According to the actor, he declined the invitation out of fear that the situation could escalate and that his imitation could provoke dangerous reactions from Berisha's supporters.

"I was afraid that one of the Vlora people would come out and shoot me in the forehead ," he said.

Agron Llakaj 's story brings to mind the tense political atmosphere of the late 1990s in Albania, but also the challenges that comedians faced during that period.
