Until recently, changing eye color could only be done using contact lenses. As unbelievable as it may seem to you, there is already an operation that can permanently change the color of the eyes. This procedure is called keratochromia and has been performed for at least 10 years, costs about $12,000, depending on the clinic and country, and takes less than half an hour.
Keratochromism was "born" as a response to various medical conditions and syndromes, but is now also used in people with healthy eyes who simply want to change the color of the iris for aesthetic reasons. The fact that the long-term consequences of this operation are not yet known make it even more controversial when it is applied for non-therapeutic reasons, while it is not recommended by the ophthalmologist.
According to a study in the British Journal of Ophthalmology, 12% of those who underwent the surgery experienced a fading of the color from the initial result, while 1/3 reported sensitivity to light, a "complication" that also occurs in similar surgeries to remove myopia. .
