Robert Stafford, the father of rapper Lil Nas X, has shared his son's emotions and message for the first time after the public crisis that ended with his arrest. The 26-year-old music star was arrested last week in Los Angeles after he was seen walking naked on a main street and then clashed with police, being accused of violence against officers. In an interview with The Sunday Times, Stafford confessed that the prison visit was one of the most difficult moments of his life: "As soon as I walked through that door, I couldn't do anything but cry. Seeing my little boy on the other side of the glass was devastating."
He also shared the touching request that Montero Hill (the rapper's real name) had made to him: "He told me to tell everyone that he was sorry for showing up in that state. Even there, in the midst of all that pain, he was asking for forgiveness." His father added that he comforted him by reminding him that nervous breakdowns are a part of life and that the only thing that made this case different was the fact that everything happened in the public eye.
Shortly after being released on $75,000 bail, Lil Nas X responded in a video on Instagram telling his more than 10 million followers that “everything is going to be okay,” calling his prison experience “horrible.” He currently faces four felony charges, including three for assaulting a police officer. The latest incident has raised concerns about his health and emotional state, and his father stressed that he will be by his son’s side during this dark time.
