The kidnapping and disappearance of Jan Prenga, the lawyer of Dritan Rexhepi

The trial against 7 defendants for organizing the kidnapping and disappearance of Jan Prenga has started in the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime.

In the session, the lawyers of the defendants Dritan Rexhepi, Gentian Funiqi (Docaj), Aldo Majnishta, Martin Bleta, Artan Doçaj, Geraldo Martini and Korado Gështenja, made the requests for evidence. There were debates between the parties in the hall as the defenders claim that there is no evidence from the prosecution to accuse the defendants.

The lawyers of the accused demand that the testimonies of Jan Prenga's brothers be taken and their mobile phones be seized, to prove the communications they claim to have had with Dritan Rexhepi and Gentian Funiq.

It is also requested that SPAK clarify the role that each of the inmates had and to review the video footage of the resort where the father of 4 children was held. From this evidence, the lawyers expect to determine the date when Astrit Penga's drug robbery took place in Portsmouth, Great Britain. It is also required that the experts who did the act-expertise of the security cameras be asked by the court. They also demand that the prosecution specify the relationship between the 7 defendants. Martin Bleta's lawyer requested that the latter be declared innocent as there is no evidence linking him to the incident.

The lawyers unanimously objected to making the court's decision for the co-defendant Festim Bexhdili, who was sentenced to life imprisonment, a part of this trial. The requests of the lawyers were opposed by the prosecutors, causing fierce debates in the session. On March 8, in the next session, Dritan Rexhepi's defense will present its request for evidence and then the questioning of the witnesses requested by SPAK will begin.

We remind you that Festim Bexhdili is the only one who is kept in custody for the kidnapping, torture and then murder of 49-year-old Jan Prenga, while Olsi Turja was released earlier, but he will appear before the jury.

The serious incident happened at noon on January 17, 2020 in Kamez. According to the footage, Jan Prenga was taken in a white Range Rover to the garage and resort in Shijak, where he is suspected to have died. Then his body disappeared, never to be found to this day.

Jan Prenga was allegedly kidnapped to put pressure on his brother Astrit Penga, who had stolen a large amount of drugs in England. The narcotics allegedly belonged to Dritan Rexhepi and Gentian Doçaj. But the investigator has doubts that he lost his life from the violence against Prenga in the car.

So far, it is suspected that one of the people who commissioned the kidnapping is Gentian Fuqini from Shkodra, who contacted the brothers of Jan Prenga, and asked him to return the amount of stolen cocaine to Great Britain, in exchange for his brother's life.

On the other hand, there was the cocaine boss Dritan Rexhepi, who is said to have also contacted the Prenga family from a prison in Ecuador. Rexhepi is suspected of being the organizer of the shipment of cocaine to Great Britain that then disappeared from the port of Portsmouth. After the contacts, Astrit Prenga returned the amount of cocaine to the criminal group, while Rexhepi revealed who the kidnappers were.

According to the police, after the kidnapping, Jan Prenga was raped and tortured, and then he was sent dead to the Hajri resort owned by Altin Hajri, from where he was taken out in a white van and is suspected to have been buried in that area.
