Victim of love, how "Murati from Lebanon" deceived the tourist by

A Greek woman traveled to Istanbul and fell victim to a love scam, losing 60,000 euros. Turkish police identified and arrested the perpetrator, who was introduced in Turkish media as "Murat from Lebanon."

The case began when Eleni M. traveled to Istanbul to meet “Muratin,” with whom she had been romantically involved for months. According to her complaint, she wanted to exchange some of her money for dollars and he offered to help her.

The Greek tourist gave “Murat” 60,000 euros and he returned with 70,000 dollars. However, when she tried to exchange the dollars again, she was informed that the banknotes were counterfeit. The case was confirmed by a security camera that recorded the couple entering a currency exchange.

Following the complaint, Turkish authorities launched an investigation and found "Murat," who was arrested. His identity turned out to be false: his real name is Ismail and he comes from the Hatay region of Turkey, not Lebanon as he claimed.

In addition, it was revealed that at least 5 charges had been filed against him for various criminal offenses, which indicates that he is a professional fraudster. He denied knowing that the money he had given to Eleni was counterfeit, however his claim was not accepted by the investigator and prosecutor, who ordered his detention.

This case highlights the danger of love scams, especially at an international level, where perpetrators exploit the trust and emotions of victims.

Turkish authorities are continuing their investigations into the defendant's possible involvement in other similar cases.

At the same time, the Greek woman has been notified to take measures for her protection and seek compensation.
