Three years have passed since the passing of Pelé, the absolute icon of world football and one of the greatest sports figures of all time.

Edson Arantes do Nascimento passed away on December 29, 2022, at the age of 82, after a battle with cancer, leaving behind an unparalleled legacy in the history of sports.

In an official statement, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has named Pelé the “King of Football” and the greatest player of all time. “With 1,282 goals scored in 1,364 matches, with his extraordinary talent and complete mastery of every element of the game, Pelé ascended forever to the throne of sport,” the statement said.

The CBF also remembered his extraordinary contribution with the Brazilian National Team: 113 matches, 84 wins, 15 draws, 14 losses and 95 goals. During his 14 years with the "canarinha" jersey, from 1957 to 1971, Pelé won three World Cups (1958, 1962 and 1970), making history at the age of 17.

Even Santos, the club where Pelé excelled for decades, commemorated this special date. With the Santos jersey, he played 1,116 matches and scored 1,091 goals, figures that speak for themselves of his greatness.

Since the King's passing, the CBF has been working to ensure that Pelé's story is immortalized and passed on to future generations ,” the statement concluded. Pelé was not just a great footballer, but a global symbol whose name will live on forever.
