Adriano will make a surprising return to football at the age of 42, as the former Brazil and Inter star is preparing for a farewell match at the Maracana.
The iconic striker, often referred to as "The Emperor", has announced that he will take part in a farewell match on December 15 at the legendary Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, where Flamengo and Serie A giants Inter will face off. together.
Adriano is expected to wear both the Flamengo and Inter jerseys for the last time, playing for both teams in each half.
His last professional appearance came in 2016 when he played two games for Miami United in the fourth division of the United States soccer pyramid at the age of 33.
Since then, Adriano has participated in various charity matches, such as Zico's Jogo das Estrelas and Futebol Solidário, which raised money for the victims of the floods in Rio Grande do Sul.
Reflecting on his decision to host this final match, Adriano said:
" Many people asked me to say goodbye. Even though I stopped playing a few years ago, I needed this match to end my cycle. I owed it to everyone who supported me and still supports me ."
Adriano's football journey began at Flamengo, where he was discovered as a young talent in the early 1990s. He moved to Europe in 2001.
After wearing the famous Inter shirt, Adriano played in 177 matches, scoring 74 goals in two spells between 2001 and 2009. During this period, he helped Inter win four Serie A titles, two Coppa Italia titles and one Super Cup of Italy.
After leaving Europe, he returned to Flamengo in 2009, leading them to victory in the Brasileirao, the top league of Brazilian football, where he scored 19 goals.
Adriano, who also scored 27 goals in 48 appearances for Brazil, will personally invite the players to attend the farewell match.
