Witnesses to the accident (July 3) that claimed the lives of footballers Diogo Jota (Liverpool) and his brother Andre Silva (FC Penafiel) dispute the report of Civil Guard experts, which states that "everything points to excessive speed in relation to the authorized limit."
"I filmed it, I stopped, I tried to help him, but unfortunately I couldn't do anything. I have a clear conscience," José Azevedo initially said, reports 'Marca'.
Diogo Jota (28 years old) and Andre (25 years old) lost their lives in a tragic accident on the A52 motorway, near Cernadilla (Zamora) in Spain.
"The family told me that they were not speeding. I could see the make and color of the car when they passed me. They were driving very quietly," José Azevedo continued.
The two brothers were traveling to Santander in a green Lamborghini Huracán that went off the road and ended up burning with the brothers trapped inside.
José Aleixo Duarte, another witness, claims that Diogo Jota and his brother were travelling at a moderate speed. Portuguese truck driver José Aleixo Duarte said he witnessed and filmed the accident that claimed the lives of footballers Diogo Jota and André Silva. José Aleixo Duarte revealed that he tried to put out the flames in the car, but this was no longer possible.
The truck driver claims that he passed Jota's vehicle five minutes before the accident and that he was traveling at a moderate speed, rejecting the claim that the luxury car in which the two brothers were traveling was traveling at excessive speed.
"Diogo Jota's family has my word that they were not speeding."
Truck driver José Azevedo, who claims to be the author of the video that showed the first images of the Lamborghini in which footballers Diogo Jota and Andre Silva were involved in an accident, stated in a video posted on social media that he tried to help the two brothers.
"I filmed it, I stopped, I tried to help, but unfortunately, I couldn't do anything. My conscience is clear. I know what I experienced that night because I didn't know who was inside. My deepest condolences to the family ," said José Azevedo.
The truck driver also denied the theory that excessive speed was a cause of the fatal accident involving Diogo Jota and Andre Silva.
"The family told me they weren't speeding. I could see the make and colour of the car when they passed me. They were driving very calmly. I drive that road every day, Monday to Saturday. I know what kind of road it is and I've seen some really strange things from other cars, but they were driving very calmly. It was dark and despite that, I could see the make and colour of the vehicle perfectly. Later, unfortunately, it ended in a collision ," said the witness to the incident.
