Every farewell brings mixed emotions, but for Mallorca fans, the possible parting with Vedat Muriqi is expected to be particularly painful. Although there is still no official decision on the future of the Kosovar striker, everything suggests that his adventure on the island is coming to an end.
Despite Mallorca's relegation from the Spanish top flight, Muriqi had an impressive season, scoring 23 goals. His form has made him one of the club's most valuable assets in the transfer market, with only Portuguese midfielder Samu Costa considered to be close to his level in terms of market value.
One of the factors that makes it difficult for Muriqi to stay in the second category is his high salary. Although there are no official figures, media reports speak of a salary of around four million euros gross per season. The striker is protected by a release clause of around 40 million euros, but the club's management is aware that real offers are expected to be lower due to the sporting and financial situation after the relegation.
According to Spanish media, Muriqi would not rule out a return to Turkey, although he has repeatedly expressed his satisfaction with his life and experience in Mallorca. Fenerbahçe remains one of the clubs most interested in his card and is reported to have submitted financial offers much higher than what Mallorca can currently offer. Galatasaray has also shown interest in the Kosovar striker, especially during the period when the Turkish club was considering alternatives to Mauro Icardi.
Muriqi himself has admitted in various interviews that he has also received offers from clubs in the Middle East, but so far has preferred to rely on sporting and personal factors in his decision-making. He has also revealed that there has been interest from Spanish teams that will participate in European competitions next season.
Among the biggest names recently linked with the Kosovar striker is Barcelona. Coach Hansi Flick appreciates Muriqi's profile and is said to be not against the approach of an experienced and reliable striker, who can offer alternatives in the offensive department of the La Liga champions.
