Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who ended up at the center of controversy due to the fact that she did not pass the gender appropriateness test at the World Cup last year, has secured a medal at the Olympic Games after defeating Hungary's Luka Hamori in the quarter-finals.
Khelif had ended up at the center of controversy, as in the previous round an Italian boxer had withdrawn from the competition after 46 seconds against her. Hamori, who had ignited the challenge by posting a photo of herself battling the devil, had no answer for her opponent, who dominated the entire match and won unanimously 5-0.
This victory advanced him to the semi-finals of the tournament and guaranteed him at least the bronze medal, as in boxing medals are awarded to the two losers of the semi-finals. Khelif was visibly emotional as she left the ring in tears, while her trainer screamed at the media "they bullied her" as she exited the arena.
