
Brazil will be the host country of the first edition of the World Legends Cup, the first international tournament that will bring back to the playing field some of the biggest names in world football who have carved their name in this sport.
The competition will kick off in Rio De Janeiro, where a press conference has also been held, and will see many former champions donning their national team jerseys again in a completely new format to honor sporting heritage and promote initiatives with social impact.
The World Legends Cup was born as an international sports platform with the aim of uniting spectacle, football memories and social commitment. 8 teams will participate in it; Brazil, Italy, Argentina, France, Spain, Netherlands, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia. Over 170 former footballers who have left their mark on entire generations will take to the field.
The one who will lead Italy will be Paolo Maldini, while the confirmed protagonists include Gianluigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro and Marco Materazzi. Buffon will also be the captain of the team. Other stars confirmed include Kaka, Romario, Bebeto and Roberto Carlos for Brazil, Thierry Henry for France, Iker Casillas for Spain, Edwin van der Sar for the Netherlands and Javier Zanetti for Argentina.
Clarence Seedorf, partner and ambassador of the project, will be one of the central images of the initiative. The matches will be played at the Nilton Santos stadium, while the final and closing ceremony will be held at the Maracana. The tournament will feature matches lasting 60 minutes.
