
Bayern Munich have taken a confident step towards qualifying for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, after defeating Atalanta 6-1 in Bergamo in the first leg of the round of 16.
The German team started the match with a bang and took the lead in the 12th minute. After a quickly executed corner kick, Serge Gnabry sent a dangerous ball into the area, which Josip Stanisic converted into a goal.
Just ten minutes later, in the 22nd minute, Michael Oliseh doubled the lead with a beautiful shot from outside the area, after an assist from Dajot Upamecano. Bayern continued the pressure and in the 25th minute it was Serge Gnabry who found the net again, this time after a pass from Oliseh, bringing the score to 0-3. With this lead, the first half ended.
The Bavarians dominated the second half as well. In the 52nd minute, Nicholas Jackson scored the fourth goal for the German team, after an assist from Luis Diaz. While in the 64th minute, Michael Oliseh scored his second personal goal and Bayern's fifth, after a pass from Alfonso Davies.
Three minutes later, in the 67th minute, Jamal Musiala sealed the score with Bayern's sixth goal, after a quick move and an assist from Nicholas Jackson.
Atalanta only managed to score at the end of the match. In the third minute of extra time (90+3), Mario Pasalić narrowed the score to 1-6, but without affecting the fate of the match.
With this decisive away win, Bayern Munich creates a huge advantage ahead of the return match and moves significantly closer to the quarter-final stage of the competition.
