Dramatic footage shows the moments when some players from Iran's women's national team tried to leave the team's hotel in Australia, in an attempt to avoid returning to their country.
According to reports, team captain Zahra Ghanbari, along with players Fatemeh Pasandideh, Zahra Sarbali, Atefeh Ramazanzadeh and Mona Hamouti, attempted to escape on Monday from the hotel where the team was staying during the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup.
In the video circulating in the media, the players are seen rushing down the emergency stairs in an attempt to exit the building. However, the door leading to the parking lot was closed and they were forced to turn back.

Meanwhile, in the hotel lobby, the Iranian agents accompanying the team noticed their absence and the situation became chaotic.
Seven Iranian female footballers have reportedly sought asylum in Australia, a request that has reportedly been accepted by authorities. Efforts were made to rescue other players, but this was not possible after Iranian escorts quickly removed them and put them on a plane to Kuala Lumpur.
The dramatic development also sheds light on the moment when striker Afsaneh Shatrenour was filmed being escorted to waiting buses in Queensland, accompanied by her friend and team member Shabnam Behesti.
The incident has attracted widespread international attention and raised concerns about the safety of Iranian athletes, who reportedly could face serious consequences if they return to Iran.
