Herolind Shala, who is expected to be transferred to Partizani soon, is a high-level player who has played for the Albanian National Team and the Kosovo National Team. In fact, in 2016, he was on coach De Biazi's extended list for the European Championship held in France, but in the end he was one of four players who had to leave the preparatory phase in Austria and return home, as they were not part of the official National Team list.
In addition to Shala, Rashica, Rrahmani and Gjimshiti also went home. Herolindi and the other two joined Kosovo, while Gjimshiti stayed with Albania, where he recently made history by qualifying for the European Championship as captain.
Disappointment – The family and Herolind himself at the time did not take leaving Albania lightly. He immediately decided to join Kosovo, while at the time his brother, Mirlind Shala, was exploding on social media:
" Unfortunately, Herolindi will not play in the "EURO 2016" in France. My family and I are deeply disappointed and surprised by this decision. Unfortunately, after this I can no longer maintain the same respect that I had before for the coach. Personally, I will no longer follow the Albanian national team in the next championship. For me, the expression 'Kosovo is Albania' will be as provocative as the statement 'Kosovo is Serbia'. For me, Albania feels like a foreign country ," wrote Mirlind Shala.
With Kosovo – Despite numerous controversies, Herolindi continued his career with Kosovo, where he played a total of 27 matches. One of the matches turned out to be the one against Albania on May 29, 2018, where Kosovo dominated that friendly match and won it with the figures 3-0 with Zenel's double and Zhegrova's goal. After that match, there was no shortage of celebrations and a post by Shala on social networks, where he wrote: "Did you underestimate us? Okay, we only talk on the field, we are Kosovo and expect great things in the future. Thank you compatriots for the great support. I love you, my homeland ."
Step after – This post was later faced with a lot of criticism from the Albanian sports opinion and the midfielder had to react with an article, where he clarified the statement and finally apologized. " Hello dear friends! I want to clarify an article of mine after yesterday's fraternal match between Kosovo and Albania. The word "underestimated us" was only for some journalists and analysts, but also for the Italian coach who underestimated us before the match and not for the fans or anyone in the Albanian Football Association.
As a young representative, we do not deserve to be underestimated, at least we deserve support to grow, because we, as footballers who play for Kosovo, try to present Albanians wherever they are. Above all, we are all Albanians, we are from one nation, but we have two football teams. To all of you who felt offended or were affected by my writing, I apologize, even though the intention was not to hurt anyone. Thank you for understanding Albanians wherever you are. Strength Albania and strength Kosovo ", explained Shala./Panorama Sport
