Dinamo starts the new year with a financial blow, CAS restores Mehmet's

Dinamo starts the new year 2026 with a significant financial blow.

After more than two years, Dritan Mehmeti, former Dinamo coach who was unfairly dismissed, as he declared to Top Channel: " I had decided to challenge them for my dignity ..." winning the entire contract he was due for the 2023/2024 season at the Lausanne Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The story of Mehmet at Dinamo

The 2023/2024 season started with a bang for the Blues from the capital, appointing a well-known name in Italian football, mainly, but not only, Gigi Di Biaggio, to the head of the bench. But as has often happened, such adventures with foreign names of famous former players, but still unconfirmed as coaches, did not work out and after the end of the first phase in 2023, Dinamo was in last place.

The managers decided to leave Dinamo to their in-house coach of the chain teams, Dritan Mehmeti, who knew the Albanian championship well and knew the environment equally well. At the end of that season, Dinamo not only saved the "play-out" but also ranked in 6th place and as a result there was an automatic renewal of Mehmeti's contract for the following season 2024/2025, although in secret, the Dinamo managers intended to put Ilir Daja, the current coach, at the head of their bench.

After the first two weeks of the championship, in August 2024, the Dinamo presidency reaches an agreement with Dajë and "fires" Dritan Mehmeti. Precisely for the unfriendly separation and in this form, the former coach, who, as he himself declares, attempted an agreement that was not reached, passed the situation to the Conflict Resolution Chamber.

Mehmeti-Dinamo Trials

Initially, the case went to the Office of Conflict Resolution in Tirana, which gave Mehmet the right and a financial compensation of 12,000 euros. A figure that the former coach of the Blues did not agree with and passed the case to the Sports Arbitration of Lausanne. Top Channel has learned exclusively that today, CAS, has revealed the decision where it has given him full right and a compensation of the entire contract, penalizing Dinamo with 39,000 euros plus 10% interest on late payment. Meanwhile, if this is not enough, Dinamo will have to pay this amount within a time limit, a maximum of 2 weeks, to avoid later sports penalties that go to the deduction of points.

Contacted by Top Channel, Dritan Mehmeti emphasizes: "It was a "battle" of dignity rather than financial, I am not in competition with other coaches, but at least I wanted my work to be respected by the managers."/Top Channel
