The President of the Albanian Football Federation, Armand Duka, gave an interview to the Italian media "Sportpress24.com", where he made an analysis of the recent success of the Albanian National Team, which qualified for the second time in history in the finals of a Championship European after an excellent edition in the qualifying campaign, where he managed to rank first in the group.
Also, President Duka spoke about the big changes that have fundamentally transformed Albanian football thanks to the strategies and policies of the AFL, whether in terms of infrastructure or even the education of professionals who work every day with football.
As for the finals of Euro 2024, the head of the Albanian football government emphasized that the National Team should enjoy this experience to the maximum and, regardless of the strength of the opponents, should try to pass the group.
- How are the preparations of the Albanian National Team and the technical leaders for the final stage of Euro 2024 going?
- We started preparations after the match against the Czech Republic, as we had almost secured qualification. In the organizational plan, we have everything ready, we have selected the base camp where our team will be accommodated during the finals of the European Championship in Germany. It is a very good sports complex in Kaiserau, very close to Dortmund and Düsseldorf, where we will play two of our three group games.
The complex offers very good conditions, it has a lot of experience in hosting football teams, it has previously hosted the national teams of Germany, Brazil, Spain, the Ivory Coast or clubs such as FC Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, FC Liverpool, FC Porto, Borussia Dortmund, Schalke 04, Valencia, Athletic Bilbao, Udinese, Legia Warsaw, Borussia Monchengladbach, Verder Bremen, RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt, Wolfsburg, Union Berlin, Fortuna Dusseldorf, Roda Kerkrade, Standard Liege, Los Angeles Galaxy, SC Paderborn, Stuttgart, Hamburger, Bohum, Arminia Bielefeld and Dinamo Dresden.
We have also scheduled four friendly matches, two in March and two in June before the start of the tournament.
Psychologically, we are trying to prepare, and this is the most difficult for us, since we do not have much experience in such tournaments, and the draw has put us in front of teams that have much more such experience.
- What are your expectations for the Albanian National Team in this major international tournament?
- I can't wait for the players, the staff and the fans to enjoy the participation in the Euro, to enjoy their success. The footballers should not have any kind of burden, they have done their duty and made us proud by participating in the Euro, what we had never tried and enjoyed in history, we are enjoying it for the second time in eight years.
Ne nuk duhet të bëjmë asgjë më shumë se sa kemi bërë në ndeshjet kualifikuese, impenjim maksimal, frymë skuadre, besim në skuadër e jo në vlera individuale, do të vlerësojmë çdo sekondë e minutë, do bëjmë më të mirën e do të synojmë të kalojmë grupin, dhe nëse arrijmë do të jemi të kënaqur, nëse shkojmë akoma më larg do të lumturohemi. Por për një gjë jam shumë i sigurt, që tifozët tanë do e “skuqin” Gjermaninë, do na mbështesin pa kursim e kjo do të jetë një tjetër armë e fortë për skuadrën.
– Në grupin tuaj, keni kundërshtarë të fortë si Spanja, Italia dhe Kroacia. Çfarë prisni të arrini ndaj këtyre rivalëve?
– Nuk vihet në dyshim që ky është një grup shumë i fortë, siç është etiketuar “Grupi i Ferrit”. Të treja skuadrat me të cilat do të ndeshemi, kanë vlera dhe nivele të padiskutueshme në futbollin europian, të cilat meritojnë respekt maksimal. Italia është kampionia në fuqi e Europës me një stil të veçantë futbolli, e cila gjithnjë llogaritet si favorite e kompeticionit. Kroacia është gjysmë-finaliste e Botërorit të fundit, me mjaft futbollistë të niveleve të larta. Spanja mbetet një ekip i traditës, e cila në këto dy dekadat e fundit, ka fituar shumë si kombëtare, por edhe ka qenë lart në nivele klubesh. Por edhe ne kemi bërë një sezon shumë të mirë kundër skuadrave jo të lehta si Polonia, Republika Çeke, Moldavia e Ishujve Faroe.
Jemi një skuadër e mirë, jo me shumë yje, por shumë të bashkuar e me shumë dëshirë.
Fitoret me skuadra të një niveli të lartë si Polonia apo Çekia, e rritën shumë skuadrën dhe kanë krijuar një besim të madh tek ne. Arritja e vendit të parë në grup, të cilin nuk e diskutuam për asnjë çast dhe në mënyrë të veçantë mënyra e lojës që zhvilloi skuadra, tregon se jemi rritur shumë. Respektojmë këdo, por edhe nuk kemi frikë nga askush. Do të përpiqemi të japim maksimumin dhe do të tentojmë kualifikimin.
– Cila është rëndësia e pjesëmarrjes së Shqipërisë në një turne kaq madhor të mirë si Euro 2024 dhe rëndësia që ka për futbollin shqiptar?
– Pjesëmarrja në kompeticione të mëdha si finalet e Kampionatit Europian apo Botëror, sigurisht që janë ngjarje të mëdha për ekipet kombëtare të vendeve të mëdha, e jo më, për një vend të vogël si Shqipëria. Në finalet e Europianit “Francë 2016”, ne morëm pjesë për herë të parë në një ngjarje kaq të madhe futbollistike. Ishte vërtet shumë emocionuese dhe u përjetua si e tillë, jo vetëm nga ne, ekipi dhe stafi. Por nga të gjithë shqiptarët, anë e mbanë botës.
Mund të them që, nga periudha e eliminatoreve të atij Europiani dhe në vijim, ekipi kombëtar dhe arritjet e futbollit në vend, janë përjetuar si ngjarjet më të rëndësishme dhe janë kthyer në festa për të gjithë kombin shqiptar. Mund të them se futbolli gjatë këtyre viteve ka rritur krenarinë kombëtare të shqiptarëve dhe me të drejtë.
– Si e promovoni zhvillimin e futbollit në Shqipëri dhe si ndikon ky sukses në sportin shqiptar?
- No success is achieved in a day. Even Rome wasn't built in a day. Moreover in today's times. When the pace is very high and football, being the most important game in the world, there is a lot of attention. It takes a lot of work to climb up. To achieve results in football you need passion, hard work and luck.
In our case, the first two are passion and hard and programmed work, with clear strategies and objectives. For a long time, we have drawn up and adopted strategies for the development of football in the country, which includes many elements that affect the achievement of the result. The most important have been the daily improvement of the infrastructure, the education of the staff, the development of children's football, etc. All these have influenced the achievement of positive results.
The qualification for the finals of the European "Germany 2024" was one of the objectives of the "Football for the Nation" strategy, prepared and approved some time ago. Aware of the difficulties, we have tried and worked hard day after day to realize them. Undoubtedly, the enthusiasm that success brings increases more attention and interest in football.
