Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni has surprised with the inclusion of several young players for friendlies against Venezuela and Puerto Rico, but the most attention has been received by 21-year-old Lautaro Rivero, a former street vendor and an inspiring success story.

Rivero, a left-footed centre-back, caught the eye of River Plate, who activated his buy-back clause to make him available for the Club World Cup. Before his rise to prominence, Rivero's life was difficult. Until a few years ago, he was selling on the streets to support his family.

Born and raised in Moreno with 5 siblings, Rivero started playing football at local club Los Hakones, then moved on to Vija Luro Norte and La Viktoria, until he joined River Plate's academy at the age of 14.

Originally a left midfielder, his height of 1.85 m and natural left foot allowed him to play as a central defender, where he immediately stood out. Rivero has stated: "I want my family to have everything they deserve. Thanks to them I am here, fighting every day."
