FIFA is poised to make a historic decision, allowing national championship matches to take place on other continents, as it has done for years with less prestigious tournaments such as the Super Cup.
"Financial Times" informs that the event promotion company in the USA, "Relevant Sports", is very close to the agreement with FIFA, to convince the latter to allow the development of matches in different continents. It seems that the influence of its billionaire owner, Stephen Ross, is persuading Infantino to pave the way for this innovation.
FIFA had blocked matches away from the respective continents in 2018, when it blocked a match between Barcelona and Girona that was due to be played in Miami. "Relevant Sports", as the organizer of the challenge, sued FIFA at the time for the expenses, but the case has not yet been resolved by the court.
