The 2026 World Cup will open this summer with a completely new formula, as for the first time in history there will be three opening ceremonies, one in each of the host countries. The news was announced by FIFA, which has also revealed the first details of the inaugural spectacles.
The first ceremony will be held on June 11 at Mexico's legendary Azteca Stadium, ahead of the opening match between Mexico and South Africa. Colombian artist J Balvin, singer Belinda and Mexican artist Alejandro Fernandez will perform on stage.
The following day, the ceremony will move to Toronto, Canada, where the spectacle will take place before the Canada-Bosnia Herzegovina match. Part of the event will be French singer Vegedream, actress and dancer Nora Fatehi, as well as well-known names in Canadian music such as Alanis Morissette and Michael Bublé.
Meanwhile, the third ceremony will be held in Los Angeles, before the match between the United States and Paraguay. "SoFi Stadium" will host a musical spectacle with the participation of Katy Perry, rapper Future and singer Anita.
According to FIFA, this trio of ceremonies will mark the start of a historic edition of the World Cup, which for the first time will be held with the participation of 48 national teams.
